Our friends at MTV Youth Hampton have just taken part in the Grim Challenge, running through four miles of thick, glutinous mud, waist-high water and bone-chilling conditions to raise money for MTV Youth.
This was all part of The Big Give Christmas Challenge: if MTV Youth can raise £2,500 then The Big Give will double it, making a whopping £5,000! The donation link is now live until 10 December, so if you would like to
sponsor the team, go to: https://donate.biggive.org/christmas-challenge-2024
and type MTV Youth Hampton in the search box.
As part of our preparations for Christmas we remember the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. Our two crib figures travel from house to house spending the night in 24 different households in the parish before coming to rest in church on Christmas Eve.
Liz Whitehead is a member of our congregation. Her husband, Jon, often leads our Worship Band. Last year she was diagnosed with breast cancer when their daughter was just 4 months old. She would like to give something back to the charity that saved her life. Coppafeel! was set up by the late Kris Hallenga after she was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 23. The charity's mission is to deliver the serious message of chest checking in a fun tongue-in-cheek way so that every young person in the country adopts healthy habits and is aware of any changes early, avoiding a secondary breast cancer diagnosis.
Liz is currently trekking 9 hours a day in the Indian Himalayas along with 120 other people who have been affected by this devastating disease in the hope that they can raise both funds and awareness for Coppafeel!
If this cause resonates with you and you would like to sponsor Liz, no matter how small, please visit her page: www.justgiving.com/page/liz-whitehead-1706898429012
